TUPRAS FLARE CHIMNEY COATING

The coating operations of the flare chimneys located on the seaside at the TÜPRAŞ facility were carried out under very difficult environmental and operational conditions. These chimneys, which are constantly active, are exposed to both the corrosive effects of the sea air and high temperature and chemical load. In addition, the chimney on which the application was made had largely completed its service life and was structurally tired and worn out.

All coating and update operations were carried out without interrupting the facility activity, that is, while the system was operating. This situation made the project special in terms of both work safety and application difficulties. High safety and precision were carried out at every stage of the process, and special coating systems were used to extend the life of the chimney structure and increase its resistance to external effects. In this way, the flare chimney was made safe and long-lasting again.

PETKIM TANK ANTI-CORROSION REPAIR

Serious corrosion damages were detected in all mobile tanks at Petkim. Due to valve failure, rust and holes in steel construction, angle iron was cut at many points and replaced with new parts. Fiber-reinforced, solvent-free special coating was applied in necessary areas; 60 micron gloss solvent paint was preferred as the final coat. In this chlor-alkali environment where atmospheric changes are intense, water and air circulation occurs as a result of the separation of tanks from concrete bases, which causes serious base corrosion.

To solve this problem, special molds were prepared between the tank and the base, and a flexible and tensile system with a suitable tensile coefficient was developed with elastomeric coating, providing high adhesion to both sheet metal and concrete. Thus, a structure that can move with the tank and is resistant to corrosion was obtained. In addition, wet sandblasting was performed on the tank surfaces with a water jet, then three layers of coating were applied. Sheet metal holes were repaired by reinforcing them with fiber without welding.

TÜPRAŞ CRUDE OIL FIRE AND FOAM COOLING LINES COATING

Special coating applications have been carried out on all incoming galvanized pipes in the fire hydrant lines of crude oil tanks within TÜPRAŞ. Since these lines are managed with a controlled combustion process without extinguishing the tanks in the event of a fire, the uninterrupted and reliable operation of hydrant systems is of great importance. Therefore, long life, high strength and resistance to environmental effects have been prioritized in the applied coating system.

No color pigment was used in the coating, and direct element-based coloring was preferred. For example, iron oxide was used for the red tone and chromium element was used for the yellow tone to create color naturally. This approach increases the resistance of the coating to external effects, while ensuring that the hydrant pipes perform longer in nature. The system has protected the critical infrastructure of the facility as a technical solution that increases fire safety.

PETKIM VCN UNIT CHIMNEY COATING

In the Petkim VSN Unit factory, a silicon aluminum based fireproof paint resistant to heat up to 600 °C was applied to the chimney surfaces requiring high temperature resistance. This special coating system provides long-term performance and safe working conditions by protecting the chimney metal surface against oxidation and thermal stresses. The paint's preservation of its adhesion and protective properties under high temperatures contributes to the efficient and sustainable operation of the system.

TUPRAS CRUDE OIL PIPELINE COATING

Within the scope of the Tüpraş crude oil pipeline project, the coating systems applied to the pipe surfaces have been meticulously planned to provide long-lasting corrosion resistance and high durability. After surface preparation, 18 micron thick inorganic zinc silicate based Shockprimer was applied as the first layer. On top of this primer layer, 75 micron thick Zinc Rich paint with high zinc content was applied to create a strong foundation against corrosion.

In the intermediate layer applications, two layers of mastic-style thick film coating, each 100 microns, were applied. These layers increase the mechanical strength of the system and provide extra protection against external effects. The coating process was completed with 60 micron thick acrylic aliphatic white paint as the final layer. This paint was preferred in terms of UV resistance and aesthetic appearance. This applied multi-layer system aims to maintain the performance of the pipeline against harsh environmental conditions for many years.

TUPRAS CRUDE OIL TANKS COATING

In the coating of crude oil tanks, a 75 micron thick zinc rich primer was applied to provide high protection against corrosion, especially in the base areas, followed by a 350 micron epoxy based coltar (asphalt based) coating to provide cathodic protection. This system was preferred in areas where silage accumulation would occur on the tank inner bases. The inner walls of the tank were coated with zinc rich paint, again with high zinc content.

In external surface applications, the first layer was 75 micron zinc rich primer, then two layers of 125 micron thick mastic-based, flexible intermediate layer coating was applied. The final layer was completed with 60 micron thick UV-resistant, aesthetic and durable acrylic aliphatic white paint. In addition, the upper surfaces of the floating roof were coated with the same system, providing integral protection throughout the tank.
